Why Is The Safety Of LED Lights Not To Be Ignored?
- Apr 17, 2018 -

The LED lamp has been replacing and surpassing the traditional fluorescent tube since its birth.

The technical progress and product development of LED lamp tube follow two main tracks: one is Copy unaliasing, in connection mode, shape size, surface material, etc. as far as possible with fluorescent lamp tube, mainly in order to make full use of existing lamps and users' habits; the other is transcendence, from light efficiency, environmental protection, controllable and so on. The more fluorescent lamps.—— safety of LED lights

Up till now, LED lamp is one of the most successful products in LED lighting products. According to incomplete statistics, the sales of Chinese LED market is over 100 million per year, and the LED lamp tubes made in China are exported to the US, Europe and Asia.—— safety of LED lights

While the industry of LED lamp is booming in China, the safety of LED lamp has become a short board. In the long run, it may become an important factor that will jeopardize its development.

Compared with the safety requirements of fluorescent lamps, the safety requirements of the LED lamps are based on the safety requirements of the fluorescent lamps because the two lamps are all serving the lamps and lanterns. But the LED tube has its particularity in technology and application, so it is not enough to copy the safety requirements of fluorescent lamp only.—— safety of LED lights

At present, there is a consensus in lighting circles for the safety requirements of fluorescent tubes, but the safety problems brought by the particularity of LED lamps have been ignored. This neglect has laid a personal safety mine for consumers, and it will explode at any time.—— safety of LED lights

China's national mandatory safety standards for fluorescent lamps used for ordinary lighting are: "GB 18774-2002 double end fluorescent lamp safety requirements", equivalent to IEC 61195, that is, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standard is exactly the same. In the second chapter of GB 18774-2012, there are 11 safety requirements listed in detail.—— safety of LED lights

- Machinery

- Insulation resistance

- Dielectric strength

- accidentally charged parts

- heat resistance and fire prevention

- creeping distance

- Lamp head temperature rise

- The minimum total length of the lamp

- design parameters of lamps and lanterns

- Ballast design parameters

Mainly on the mechanical and electrical safety regulations, of which the electrical safety requirements of 4 items (insulation resistance, dielectric strength, accidental live parts, climbing distance). —— safety of LED lights

Because the luminescence principle of the LED lamp and the fluorescent lamp are completely different: the LED lamp tube is essentially connected by the circuit hardware by the LED light emitting diode, and the fluorescent lamp uses the principle of gas luminescence. The fluorescent lamp is insulated when the fluorescent lamp is not fully connected to the circuit. Only after the full access circuit, the circuit starts working. After the breakdown of the gas in the fluorescent lamp, the two ends of the lamp will generate electricity.—— safety of LED lights

Because of the technical particularity of LED lamp, when consumers install LED lamp, there may be special situations different from other lighting products.—— safety of LED lights

This safety requirement is called in the standard IEC 62776 of the authoritative international Electrotechnical Commission (IEC): Pin-safety during insertion (safety for inserting lamp tube pins).

Setting standards

As an electrical product, the safety of products, especially the safety related to personal electric shock, is important. In recent years, international standard circles and some countries have formulated safety standards for LED lamps.—— safety of LED lights

- the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC):

IEC 62776-2014 Double-capped LED lamps designed to retrofit linear fluorescent lamps – Safety specifications.

-IEC 62776-1 Safety standard for double-capped G5/G13 integrated LED lamps to be to, the second one is (Draft).

-Europe: EN 62776 – 2015, which is consistent with IEC 62776-2014.

- US: UL 935 ed 10.1 -2014

-Australia / New Zealand: AS/NZS 60598.2.1 Appendix A;

-Malaysia: MS IEC 62776, IEC 62776.

-India: IS 16102:Part 1, referring to IEC 62776 & IEC 62776-1 (Draft).

-Taiwan: CNS 15829-2015, reference IEC 62776; CNS15983-2017, reference IEC 62776-1 (Draft).

These standards require the safety of LED lamp tube inserts from different angles. The main current evaluation method is that the current can not exceed a limit by connecting the power grid at one end of the LED lamp and the other end and the standard analog human circuit (HBM). If we exceed this limit, we may cause direct or indirect injury to the human body.

Although the risk of electric shock is a certain probability, human life is priceless, and it is also independent of the state or region.—— safety of LED lights

The current LED lighting market in China is very worrying. Since so far, there is no mandatory safety national standard for LED lamps and pipes issued and implemented, so the quality of the LED lamp in the market is uneven, and a large part of the LED lamp can not meet the safety requirements of the international standards.

The national standard of our country is catching up, and the relevant national standard is being drafted. In 2017, as an authoritative Chinese lighting industry organization, the China Lighting Society (CIES) took the lead. The following group safety standards for LED lighting products have been issued. In these two standards, the importance of the safety of lamp insertion is fully recognized when inserting.—— safety of LED lights

- T/CIES 008—2017 Safety requirements for double ended LED lamps (replacing straight tube fluorescent lamps)

- T/CIES 013—2017"Integrated dual end LED lamp safety requirements"

China Lighting Association lamps Specialized Committee, China Lighting Appliance Association lamp appliance accessories Specialized Committee and national lighting electrical quality inspection center technical alliance also jointly issued CALT/TR 001-2016 "double end LED lamp socket touch risk technical report" on 01 month of 2016, and actively encourage the domestic safety standards to be introduced as soon as possible.—— safety of LED lights
