LED Light Makes Roses Rose
- Apr 19, 2018 -

Shakespeare wrote that any other name rose would smell sweet. But can roses grow under the sweetness of LED light? We're not sure, but we know that: LED lights can help produce longer stems and bigger buds.——LED light

This is according to the Philips Lighting Company, which says Holland growers are adjusting their size to adapt to the new light formula to maximize the quality of the rose after the PHILPS LED headlights. In the rose business, the scale is very important, because bigger buds and longer stems are of commercial value in the market of "reducing roses".——LED light

The newly tuned lights are part of the PHILPS GreenPower gardening lighting series. PHILPS said its previous LED Rose Formula increased production but did not increase the size of roses. After fiddling with frequency, intensity and duration, PHILPS and its partners claim that the part of the quality equation has been cracked.——LED light

"The rose branches in the new spectrum are longer, heavier, and have bigger buds," said Marc Koene, owner of the Holland grower SK Roses, one of about 30 entities, including other manufacturers, academics and research institutions. Promote horticultural lighting technology.——LED light

"Feedback from this network helps us improve the quality and quantity of roses growing under LED lighting," said Udo van Slooten, a PHILPS lighting leader gardening. SK, headquartered in Den Hoorn, Holland, has been testing new lights in a small part of its greenhouse since January. Although PHILPS refused to reveal their names, two other commercial growers also adopted a new formula. Other partners include the Holland Horticultural Research Institute Delphy and Holland Wageningen University.——LED light

So what is the secret put forward by PHILPS and 30 partners? PHILPS is not saying. A spokesman for PHILPS told LED magazine: "formula is part of the knowledge we have built up for a long time and can not be shared openly."——LED light

The formula seems to be in the range of 400-700 nm (PAR or photosynthetic effective range, more or less corresponding to visible light). PHILPS said the formula was equipped with the latest generation of GreenPower LED dome lights. It is said that each lamp module can provide 500 or 600 micromoles per minute (mol/ s). In gardening lighting, micromoles represent the number of photons in the PAR range of the impact surface. PHILPS claims that the new headlights are very energy efficient and provide 3 micromoles per joule (mol/ J). PHILPS ensures that the lighting lasts for 35000 hours.

PHILPS's Rose formula is another example of how gardening uses adjustable LED lighting to optimize crops, including the use of UV spectroscopy (not part of the PAR range) to enhance plant appearance, effectiveness, smell and taste, as LED has covered many times, including the later report of the garden lighting conference.——LED light

Although PHILPS can now claim that its dome has increased its production and size, it tells LED that its research so far does not include rose perfume. You can still see more fragrant roses under LED lights.——LED light
